Nineteen year-old Terran Arnold of Nassau, Bahamas has arrived in California for his summer stay as an intern with the Education Associates Program at the Flight Trajectory Dynamics & Controls Branch of the Aviation Systems Division at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA Ames Research Center. In recognition of his outstanding potential, Terran was selected for an Aerospace Engineering internship under the mentorship of Ms. Aisha Bowe, an award winning Bahamian-American engineer working at the Aviation Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center in Northern California.

"We are very pleased to have Terran on board for the summer, it is clear that his passion for science and math will translate into great work," said Bowe. "We hope that the work he does here will help him with his career in the future."

Over the course of the summer at Ames, Terran will be exposed to the field of Air Traffic Management. at NASA Ames Research Center in Northern California. NASA Ames is known for its world-class research in the area of air traffic management done in collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration to make safer, cheaper, and more efficient air travel a reality. Under the guidance of Ms. Aisha Bowe, Terran will investigate problems such as the impact of aircraft weight on trajectory prediction uncertainty and optimizing aircraft trajectories for minimum fuel burn.

"I am inspired to do my best with every job and opportunity I get. I believe that the people and programs at NASA will aid me in experiencing what it is to work hard for a goal and what it takes to accomplish it," said Arnold.  "It will be a great experience for me because I want to be in the aerospace engineering /robotics work discipline; thus it will help me develop in that area."

Terran was born to David Ian Arnold and Sjuina Tanice Arnold (Cumberbatch) of New Providence and after receiving his Associates Degree from C.O.B. Terran plans to pursue a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF) with the hopes of minoring in Robotics and/or Aerospace Engineering.

From a very young age Terran knew he loved math and science, but it was not until he reached COB that he truly grew to appreciate the study of physics. Being the eldest of 5, Terran is motivated to be a strong role model and mentor for his siblings. He feels it’s important to show them that they succeed in life through working hard within a discipline they love. Although he is still of unsure of his future, Terran sees himself pursuing opportunities in the fields he loves: math and science.

Internship Program Description: NASA's Education Associates Program (EAP) offers students and faculty the opportunity to experience science and technology within the unique environment of NASA. EAP is a hands-on, immersive experience at a NASA center working with scientists, engineers and other program managers on NASA projects.
