The
International Day of Action will allow
the African community and Freedom-loving peoples
of the world to register their condemnation of and resistance to the
wars being made against African people and their freedom everywhere.
NASSAU, Bahamas – ‘Africans United’ will show solidarity with
the
International Day of Action Against the Wars on Africa and African
People on Wednesday,
August 17
th
by hosting a Panel Discussion on Yellow Elder Park from 7pm – 10pm.
In case of rain, the event will take place at the Government High School
Gym.
The International Day
of Action is being called for by the Black is Back Coalition for Social
Justice, Peace and Reparations that is headquartered in Washington,
DC and is a response to the relentless imperialist aggressions against
African people everywhere—in Africa and in places where Africans were
forcibly dispersed throughout the world during the process of slavery
and colonialism.
The intention of the
Day is to raise the consciousness of Africans to the nature of the African
struggle and the need to resist the common conditions of oppression
and exploitation experienced by African people everywhere.
These common conditions
- “wars”- include, for instance, imposed poverty and despair, police
murders and mass incarceration, joblessness, anti-immigration terror,
and high rates of maternal and infant mortality experienced by Africans
globally.
They also
refer to the presence of AFRICOM and the host of other imperialist’s
institutions that prop up neocolonialism in Africa; the brutality and
starvation being inflicted on Africans in Haiti by the UN, functioning
as an arm of U.S. policy; and the heinous bombing of Libya and the violent
attempt to overthrow that government.
The International Day
will also be used to challenge all the People who say that they are
“for” peace and ask them to really open their eyes to the conditions
that are imposed on African People. If they really are “for”
peace they would support the just struggle of Africans for social justice,
peace and reparations.
On August 17th presentations
on these various “wars” will be made by representatives from
the African People’s Socialist Party-Bahamas, the Organization of
African Unity-Bahamas, the Qubtic Church of the Black Messiah, the Ethiopia
Africa Black International Congress, and from Cecil Hall. There will
also be performances by Jah Doctrine and Danyie’l Cinque. The event
is open to the general public.
Africans United is
a newly formed coalition established April 10, 2011 comprised of over
15 organizations and individuals from various political and ideological
persuasions. It is guided by nine resolutions and its overall goal is
to improve the living conditions of African People in The Bahamas and
around the world. It is also committed to the total liberation of Africa
and African People everywhere.
