NASSAU, Bahamas - The Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) is close to the completion of the transport network that supports the closed-circuit television network (CCTV) for the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) to allow the monitoring of their selected public spaces such as Bay Street and other high traffic areas.
Surveillance CCTV is the use of video cameras positioned in designated areas to capture and transmit moving images to a specific place such as a monitoring station. The government of The Bahamas contracted BTC in January of this year, 2013, to design and install the necessary infrastructure for CCTV to monitor public places selected by, and for the use of the police force.
BTC’s Antonio Stubbs, Senior Vice President, Technical Services, said the 200 plus cameras presently installed, which provide for a dedicated surveillance network, is presently up and running but requires additional optimization.
“We have expanded our fiber optic network and built out the dedicated wireless infrastructure as a transport network to support the CCTV system,” said the senior VP.
“We will complete the remainder of the sites once the power source has been connected.”
BTC is spending over 2 million dollars to support the creation of this network.
