George Gobin, Microsoft Corporation’s Country Manager for The Bahamas will address the 22nd Annual Bahamas Outlook on January 10, 2013 at the Wyndham Nassau Resort. Mr. Gobin will discuss the next big thing in business technology: Cloud Computing. He will focus on the benefits and advantages of Cloud data storage and processing services for businesses.
“The cloud is really moving access to your computing resources out of your own company and sharing a data centre with multi-tenants somewhere else so you don’t have your hardware physically situated at your company. You’re sharing a facility that could reside in a next state, a next country or a next universe. You don’t know and you shouldn’t really care. All you should care about is that your data is secure,” Mr. Gobin said.
He explained that cloud services deliver economies of scale to businesses because one computer can share its resources with many companies thus lowering computing costs and enabling businesses to reassign resources.
“With the cloud I don’t carry costs of running my own air conditioning or my own power. When hardware changes I don’t need to upgrade my hardware. The hosting provider who is providing the cloud service for you takes care of all those costs. So we’re going to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the Cloud and I hope to leave the audience with a true understanding of what the cloud is,” Mr. Gobin said.
George Gobin is currently the Microsoft Country Manager for Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Belize, Turks & Caicos (BCBBT). He is based in the Microsoft Regional Head Quarters office in Ft Lauderdale, Florida and is responsible for the growth of Microsoft business in those countries. Prior to this he was the General Manager for the Microsoft West Indies regional office of Microsoft Corporation USA and was based in the Microsoft Trinidad & Tobago office headquartered in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
He has had the experience of engaging with Caribbean governments around their E-Govt strategies and also consulting with top organizations in the region who are involved in finance, energy, and telecommunications to discuss solutions and benefits around implementing Microsoft technology.
Mr. Gobin is a national of Trinidad & Tobago and studied at the University of the West Indies in Mathematics and Computer Science. He has a Diploma in Systems Analysis and Design from the National Institute of Higher Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST).
