Nygard Cay - Bahamas - On Friday, December 12th, Peter Nygård, Founder and Chairman of North America's leading fashion house NYGÅRD and owner of the luxurious NYGÅRD CAY will present a $5,000 check to Leevan Sands for winning the Bronze medal in the Men’s Triple Jump during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Nygård also promised $10,000 to any Bahamian that won Silver. The Men’s 4x400 meter relay team, which includes Christopher Brown, Andretti Bain, Michael Mathieu, Andrae Williams, Ramon Miller and Avard Moncur are the lucky recipients. Each receiving, over $1,600 for their Silver medal.
Growing up in Finland and starting at the early age of 2, Peter Nygård began to develop his strong passion for sports. As once described in The Sports Journal (2003), Nygård actually snow-skied before he could walk properly. “We were taught to be athletes right from the very beginning”, said the entrepreneur. “Every child's ambition was to go to the Olympics.” Nygård himself went on to be recognized as a world class athlete.
Nygård's love of sports & his drive to help and see people succeed has motivated him to sponsor many athletes over the years. The "Golden Girls" were sponsored by Nygård in 2000 at the Sydney, Australia Olympics – during which they WON the FIRST EVER Olympic GOLD medal for the Bahamas (Sports Journal, 2003).
