Nassau, Bahamas - Bristol Wines and Spirits and Lindeman’s Wines partnered in the launch of “Drifter in Residence” – an oceanographic expedition by acclaimed Bahamian artist Kishan Munroe, at an intimate gathering held at the “Never Say Never Again Bar and Grill” on April 24, 2019.
It was no ordinary experience for those who attended as they gathered in the beautiful gazebo that overlooked the Nassau Harbour, sipping Lindeman’s wines, and watching the arrival of the “R/V Diaspora” being escorted convoy-style into the Harbour by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas and the New Providence Port Authority.

Kishan Munroe who is an interdisciplinary artist built the “R/V Diaspora.” It is a 20-foot raft constructed mostly of repurposed and reclaimed materials, some commonly associated with vessels crafted by ingenuitive seafaring migrants and refugees explained Munroe.
“On a self-constructed raft, artist Kishan Munroe plans to set adrift, alone, into the throes of the Atlantic Ocean,” states his launch brochure. “There he will remain resident aboard his creation for several weeks, engaged in an unorthodox artist research residency. This ‘introspective/retrospective’ pilgrimage marks a ten-year milestone in Munroe’s professional artistic journey, actively engaged in extensive anthropological investigations through cultural immersion. In this phase the artist literally plunges into the foreign world of the ocean, seeking to tap into the narratives, realities and histories of man’s precarious relationship with the sea and his never-ending quest for ‘home’.”
