Our latest winner is Lynette Leadon-Pierre of Freeport who entered a photo of her baby and her mother in The Celebrity Artist portrait giveaway contest on
TheBahamasWeekly.com saying,
"Enclosed
is a
photograph of my mum Sylvia Bain with her first grandbaby Sarkozy.
This is a photo she cherishes with all her heart, and I hope one day he
will as well. My mum was beyond ecstatic about the news of her first
grand baby and always insisted that she will be called “Nana” because
“grammy” was for ‘old people.’ She looked forward to the joys of
motherhood all over again and helping raise the son God blessed her
with. Shortly after he was born, she became ill and gradually lost
control of her lower extremities. It was discovered that her cancer had
returned, metastasizing to her spine causing tumors to press against
nerves leaving her paralyzed. Despite the pain and emotional stress she
endures, whenever she sees her grandbaby he manages to make all that go
away. He continues to be her reason for being and her saving grace.
This photograph was taken the day of Sarkozy’s Christening which she
refused to miss despite the pain and discomfort. My mother has always
been kind hearted and caring; daily giving of herself to help others.
As a dedicated educator for some 30+ years, she’s well deserving of such
precious gift. "
