Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas Weekly is pleased to present The
Celebrity Artist's unveiling of the third winning portrait!
Latoya Pedican is
our 3rd winner in TheBahamasWeekly.com's joint giveaway promotion with The
Celebrity Artist, Jamaal Rolle. She won this black and white sketch
drawing of her late father-in-law,
Vincent Pedican (of Grand Bahama).
Latoya
Pedican entered a photo of her late
father-in-law, whom she never had the opportunity to meet due to his
ill-fated and mysterious death in Grand Bahama 6 years ago. Her entry read as follows:
"My husband’s father lost his life in November 2007 when he was
kidnapped from his job at Eight Mile Rock High School and then murdered.
I recall the day when my husband (Vincent Charles Pedican) called
devastated because the last voice message from his father was deleted
from his phone. It was all he had left...his voice."
"My husband often
talks about the anguish of never knowing how or why his father died, and
reflects on the year before his passing, when for the first time he
truly got to know the man whose name he carries. He holds on to those
memories tightly. His father Vincent “Doc” Pedican was a stellar man
from what I’ve been told, a well known Grand Bahamian fondly missed by
all who knew him. For this reason I would love to have a portrait of my
father in law drawn, as a keepsake to my husband, his grand children and
to the future generations of Pedicans, that were not allowed the
privilege to meet this well-loved man."
Latoya also provided us with the following link to an article on her father-in-law's passing: http://freeportarchive.nassauguardian.net/pubfiles/fpt/archive/im
Latoya met
Vincent (Jr)
during her high school years at Freeport Anglican High and reconnected with him when his father was murdered. They were married in November 2011, and the following year they moved to Belgium for his work in the US Army. Vincent is currently
deployed to Afghanistan.
Finding out about her win, Mrs. Pedican said, "
