Pinder heads Bahamas' team to NACAC U-23 Champs

TrackAlerts.com - A twenty six member team comprising eight (8) females and eighteen (18) males has been selected by the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) to represent the Bahamas at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC UNDER 23) Track & Field Championships.

Athletes from 32 member-nations will compete in the 2010 NACAC Under 23 Track & Field Championships at the Miramar, Florida Ansin Sports Complex from July 9th - 11th.

Under the auspices of the IAAF (International Amateur Athletics Federation) and the USATF (USA Track & Field) , athletes in the 23 and under category representing Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, St. Kitts/ Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turk and Caicos Islands,
United States Virgin Islands, and United States of America will bring their top athletes to compete at this high level senior competition.

The makeup of the Bahamas’ team is predominately collegiate athletes a number of whom recently competed for their universities and colleges’ at their conference and national championships.

Leading the team will be Demetrius Pinder the new national champion in the men’s 400 meters who has a season best of 44.93secs; Jamal Forbes in the 100 meters with a season best of 10.28; Nathan Arnett 400 meter hurdles Junior College champion with a season best of 51.47.  

Among the women competing are Bianca Stuart NCAA All American and sevenjump with a season best 6.54 meters along with Michelle Cumberbatch NCAAA Division 2, 400 meter hurdles champion and Ramona Nicholls 800 and 1500 meter standout from Park Atlanta University. Relay teams in the women’s 4x400 meters and men’s 4x100 and 4x400 will also be fielded. (7) time Missouri Valley Conference champion in the long
