The recent session of The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association's "Play Tennis" featured an introduction to the backhand stroke. The backhand can be a one-handed or two-handed stroke. Many of the kids prefer the two-handed backhand.

Play Tennis has welcomed up to approximately 20 participants since its resumption at the beginning of the year, keeping in line with social distancing and safety protocols. The kids are very enthusiastic to learn the game of tennis in this safe and fun environment. The classes require pre-registration at pr@blta.net and the sessions are structured in small groups.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association(BLTA) continues to add to the number of new persons coming into the sport by this service offering to the wider community. The program is essentially a free program and is targeted to interested persons who have a desire to learn and play tennis. The goal is to get the kids to start playing right away. Some children ages 5-16 are picking up the racquet for the first time and
loving it. We see the excitement and growth which propels us to continue to build on this foundation.

Volunteer coaches and assistants have diligently offered their time and talent to the program. This week's session featured Former Top Junior and 2019 Davis Cupper Donte Armbrister, BLTA President Perry Newton (Level 1 Certified), Barry Usher, Marva Conyers, Esther Newton(Play Tennis Certified) and Shayvon Clarke.

A similar program is being offered by the Abaco Tennis Association(ATA) to the children in Abaco. The kids are invited to learn tennis on the Dundas Town Court. President Cameel McDonald leads this initiative for the ATA.
