According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources, The Bahamas is one the last areas where the Nassau Grouper may be found in abundance. The stocks in The Bahamas, like all other fisheries resources are not unlimited. This fish has been long enjoyed as a favourite food fish in the country. Overfishing have threatened this valuable food resource, and therefore the Ministry enforces a fishing season for the Nassau Grouper. The season is closed from December 1st to February 28th of each year.
Enclosed is a VIDEO of a poem about the Nassau Grouper recited by Miss Sophia Butler, a participant of BREEF 10, 2008 Marine Conservation Teacher Training Workshop.
Enjoy the Nassau Grouper, but let's all keep this valuable resource flourishing. Obey the fishing regulations and refuse to purchase Nassau Grouper during off season.
