Atten-HUT! Whether your fashion sense is best described as girly girl or
you prefer looks that are hard as nails, it’s difficult not to drool
over the military inspired apparel and accessories filling stores this
fall.
With frothy, ultra feminine looks dominating spring and
dainty florals peeking their heads into many fall looks, the military
trend is a great way to temper all that sweet with a little edge.
To
avoid looking like you just got your marching papers, opt for sleek,
tailored military inspired pieces and wear them in moderation, using one
military inspired piece as the focal point of your look. Keep in mind
that chic combat style isn’t limited to apparel - you can add interest
to your everyday fall favorites with military inspired accessories as
well.
Tops
A military inspired blazer is my personal
favorite way to rock this trend. When a fashionista thinks of a military
blazer, Balmain’s wildly popular take on the trend quickly comes to
mind. When looking for a great military blazer, all the extras that make
it military inspired are great, but remember to choose a quality blazer
that fits well.
Until the nights are cool enough to break out
your military blazer, everyday tops with utilitarian embellishments are a
comfortable and chic way to incorporate the trend into your wardrobe
now. A lightweight, linen button down with rolled sleeves, epaulets and
flap front pockets is a great casual take on this hard edged trend. Pair
with denim shorts or khaki trousers and flats for an effortless daytime
look perfect for running around the island. Even super lightweight silk
tops get a utilitarian makeover with flap front pockets and burnished
buttons.
Bottoms
There is a military inspired bottom to get you through everything from a day at the office to a night on the town.

I
haven’t been a fan of cargo pants since the age of 12, but designers
have updated the dreaded cargo pant with a healthy dose of cool. Wide
legged, slouchy and often unflattering cargo pants have been updated
with a skinny leg silhouette, richer fabrics and more streamlined
pockets situated at the hips, perfect for those who need a little extra
volume for a curvy, womanly silhouette.
Rows of buttons on a
pencil skirt takes a closet staple out of the trenches and breathes new
life into this wardrobe warrior. For nighttime, military inspired short
shorts are a sexy way to stay cool and au courant. Pair a cuffed
military short with a sweet lace top or bold floral top for a uniquely
cool look.
Footwear
You couldn’t walk ten feet in France
this spring without seeing at least two fashionable ladies wearing the
most adorable lace dresses on top and edgy combat inspired boots on
bottom. The combat boot trend quickly crossed the pond and pairing
rugged boots with feminine pieces is a hot look for fall.
Masculine
combat boots are just one style of military inspired footwear popular
this fall. If your taste in shoes is a little more refined, opt for
sleek booties or pumps with military accents such as buckles, chains,
buttons and studs.
Accessories
Sometimes it’s all in the
details. Studded cuffs, medallions and oversized sunglasses in military
inspired hues are just a few of the accessory options you can pull out
of your military inspired arsenal. A military inspired tote to house all
of your daily essentials is another great way to rock the utilitarian
trend.
If you’re hesitant to jump on board the military trend
with an embellished piece, tread lightly with the trend by incorporating
a military inspired color scheme into your wardrobe. Shades of green,
khaki, browns, camel, navy and pops of brighter hues such as variations
of orange and red are staple colors for military inspired looks.
