One
of the most common body types for women is the pear or triangle shape.
Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce boast this figure. You
have this body type if you have a medium to full bust, narrow shoulders
and substantially larger hips and thighs.
When
dressing any body type, the goal is to create balance. With the pear
shape, the aim is to visually widen the shoulders and create the
illusion of a fuller chest while minimizing the hips, and thighs. There
are many ways to achieve this by choosing your clothes wisely.
If
your arms aren’t an issue, wearing slightly puffed sleeves, or thicker,
wide set straps help to visually widen the shoulders and offset the
lower half. Wearing colored tops and dark bottoms also help to draw the
eye upward and detract attention from the wider lower half of the body.
A-line
and flared trumpet skirts look best on you and work well to
de-emphasize a fuller lower half. Bootleg jeans are also very
flattering. Stay away from tight pencil skirt and skinny leg or tapered
jeans, which make the hips look even larger. When wearing dresses, stick
with empire waist and wrap styles, which hug the bust and flow over the
hips and thighs without clinging.
Remember
to play up your upper body. Tops with details and embellishments work
great but always keep the clothing on your lower body simple to avoid
drawing extra attention to that area. Balance is the key.
